Newport House – Williamsburg’s most historically authentic B&B – was built to museum standards from the 1756 design by colonial architect Peter Harrison, and is furnished completely in period pieces. B&Bs in this neighborhood are permitted only 2 rental rooms, so our rooms are large, each containing a queen 4-poster canopy bed plus a twin 4-poster canopy bed, and a private bathroom. The house is fully air-conditioned. The full breakfast in the formal dining room includes authentic colonial recipes and produce from our garden, plus historical conversations with your host.

Every Tuesday evening year round from 8pm to 10pm Newport House hosts locals and visitors for colonial dancing (“English Country Dancing”) in our beautiful ballroom – beginners and spectators welcome. Although we occasionally hold Balls with period clothing, the Tuesday dances are informal so T-shirts, blue jeans and sneakers are perfectly acceptable.

John, your host, is a former museum director and captain of an historic full-rigged ship, and the author of many historical books. Cathy is a Registered Nurse, who does gardening and beekeeping. Also among your hosts is their son Ian and a rabbit.

Newport House is only a five minute walk from the Historic Area, much closer than almost any other B&B, so you can park in our driveway and walk. Your hosts are experts at helping you get the most out of your precious time to see Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown and the Plantations. We can steer you away from the attractions that are less rewarding. We can help you plan side-trips to historic places up to three hours away, and to such little-known places as the ruins of Chief Powhatan’s 1609 house, if asked.
