The approach to Applewood Inn takes you through a scenic gorge along Buffalo Creek, then through meadows and almost to the top of a hill overlooking the valley and mountains beyond.

The inn’s property consists of 36 acres of hilltop meadows, pastures and woods with hiking trails. The unique passive solar design of the inn allows for wonderful year round porches, with great views. Its location is private but only 10 minutes to Lexington.

The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed and reflects the innkeepers’ interest in the environment.

Breakfast is an ample feast of healthy whole-grain baked goods and breakfast casseroles augmented by fresh fruit from the garden and homemade preserves.

There is a hot water dispenser and guest pantry stocked with a huge selection of tea and other beverages available for guests as well as a refrigerator and microwave. Breakfast is served either in the dining room or on the porch, both of which overlook the gardens and llama pasture.

Guestrooms all have queen beds, private baths and access to wonderful porches and patios. All have fireplaces and either Jacuzzi or hot-tub.

A feature of the Inn are two hour guided llama treks, on which each guest gets to hike with his own personal llama. There is an optional picnic lunch available except in winter. The trek route follows a ridge with 365 degree views and a visit to Buffalo Creek.

Our long weekend package includes three nights lodging, in-room flowers, a llama trek and a four course dinner on Sunday. During the summer dinners are served poolside and may include mesquite grilled pork loin, pasta with shrimp and garden vegetables or our special barbecued chicken. There is also the option to substitute Lime Kiln Theater tickets for the llama trek.
